Bhutan has been listed Lonely Planet’s Top 10 countries for your 2020 travel adventures.
The Kingdom of Bhutan, located on the Silk Road in South Asia, claimed the No. 1 spot , in the Lonely Planet’s travel guide book, ‘Best in Travel 2020.’ partly for its majestic beauty and because it is set to become the first fully organic nation by 2020. The kingdom has lush subtropical plains in the south and sub-alpine Himalayan mountains in the north, which include Gangkhar Puensum, Bhutan’s highest peak and believed to be the highest unclimbed mountain in the world.
Lonely Planet is an international travel guide book publisher. Lonely Planet, the travel guide brand, compiles its “best in travel” list each year, including Top 10 cities, Top 10 regions and 10 trips with the most value, based on the hottest trends, destinations and experiences. And it’s a wonderful travel destination, too. From lush, undulating landscapes and extensive wildlife preserves to historic Buddhist monasteries and traditional art forms, there is so much for any visitor to explore.
The country’s low impact tourism policy, its rich culture and tradition, and sustainable practices are the reasons why Bhutan hit the publisher’s top list.
When it comes to sustainability, being the first carbon-negative country in the world, the country leads the pack, according to Lonely Planet. “Its sustainability efforts are extraordinary. Bhutan is set to become the first fully organic nation.”
“Bhutan is no ordinary place,” according to Lonely Planet. “It is the last great Himalayan kingdom, shrouded in mystery and magic, where a traditional Buddhist culture carefully embraces global developments.”
The entry for Bhutan states that Bhutan offers travelers a unique experience of mountain hikes through pine-scented monastery-crowned hills along magnificent trails unspoiled by litter.
“The kingdom prioritizes its ancient Buddhist traditions, while still embracing global developments,” it states. “Here, you will find a fascinating blend of the old and the new among kind-hearted people whose time-honored beliefs, keep them uniquely in tune with their environment.”
It’s never too early to start planning your next vacation.
