The World’s Toughest and Most Challenging Ultra-Marathon

There cannot be enduring peace, prosperity, equality and brotherhood in this world if our aims are so separate and divergent, if we do not accept that in the end we are people, all alike, sharing the Earth among ourselves and also with other sentient beings, all of whom have an equal role and stake in the state of this planet and its players”.

 – His Majesty the King of Bhutan.

Like the words of His Majesty the King Jigme Khesar Wangchuck, we all have equal role and stake in protecting our mother Earth. In keeping with the important and urgent role, Bhutan has made one of the world’s most far-reaching climate promises to forever remain carbon neutral and its forests helps keep the world’s climate change at bay by absorbing carbon dioxide. But climate change brutally impacts Bhutan. Here among the water towers of Asia, catastrophic floods caused by climate change have already washed away villages, killed people and wreaked havoc on livelihoods and wildlife.

This could just be the experience you talk about until the end of your days!

Years ago, a glacial lake broke loose and flooded the country. Now, Bhutan has to contend with the looming danger of 2,700 glacial lakes that did not exist 20 years ago because global warming is melting Himalayan glaciers to the bone.

Similarly, more of these glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) will occur across the world as climate change continues. It is also predicted that climate change could result in a loss of up to 30 percent of the snow leopard habitat in the Himalayas.

Therefore, the tiny Kingdom of Bhutan is gearing toward the first Bhutan Snowman Run, which will flag off from Gasa Dzong on 13th October 2020. The Run is aimed at bring the global community together to join hands in committing to combating climate change.

The Bhutan Snowman Run will be the most daring and exclusive where runners will be greeted by the breathtakingly beautiful and pristine Himalayan Mountains, forests, and glaciers. Covering more than 300 kilometers through the wild and challenging terrains with mountain passes as high as 17,454 feet, the Bhutan Snowman Run will challenge the world’s fittest and elite runners.
